Delta State CP, Alkali Usman cautions politicians against misconduct.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Alkali Usman, on Wednesday met with representatives of all registered political parties in Asaba, the state capital, and warned them against misconduct.

The meeting, which held at the headquarters of the Delta State Police Command, also had in attendance representatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Department of State Service as well as representatives of most of the registered political parties contesting elections in the state.

Usman said the security operatives deployed for the election had been asked to enforce INEC’s election guidelines to the letter.

He also said anybody who did not have proper accreditation would not be allowed to move around on Election Day.

“I wish to appeal to all of you that there is need for you to communicate the following to your party members. Take note that the security operatives that have been deployed for the election have been thoroughly briefed on the following:

“One, no politician or party representative will be allowed to join the convoy or escort of sensitive and non-sensitive electoral materials. Only accredited party agents will be allowed to be with INEC officials while they are performing their duties at the Registration Area Centres. No politician has any business going to the RAC.”

He noted that officials and election materials would be moved to the RACs by Friday for dispatch to respective polling units very early on Saturday.
Usman also warned, “Each political party is expected to have only an agent at each of the collation centres, different from their agent at the polling unit. The duty of the party agents at the polling units terminates as soon as election results are handed over to the party agents at the collation centres.

“Except for the party agent accredited for the collation centre, no other party representative will be allowed at the collation centres. We ask for your cooperation and understanding so that we can police the election well.”
He also noted that distribution of sensitive materials by INEC would start on Thursday, when the material would be released from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
