must read: "Blah, blah, blah," Jebb Bush said. "That's my answer

AP 2016 CAMPAIGN FINANCE I ELN PRICHARLESTON, S.C. — Jeb Bush says he's not reducing his presidential campaign, he is simply refocusing it with an eye toward the early caucus and primary states.
"We've made an adjustment in our campaign," Bush said Saturday before conducting a town hall in the pivotal state of South Carolina. "That's what leaders do."
Stumping the Palmetto State a day after his campaign announced staff reductions and pay cuts, Bush dismissed critics who said the changes reflect a struggling campaign that is losing ground to any number of rivals.
"Blah, blah, blah," Bush said. "That's my answer — blah, blah, blah."
The cuts came after a slide in polls that now show the former Florida governor well behind Donald TrumpBen Carson and other Republican candidates, creating some unrest among Bush donors.
In response, Bush cited a number of candidates who have held early leads in Republican contests and then faded, a list that ranges from Herman Cain to Rudy GiulianiJohn McCain, meanwhile, rallied from internal campaign troubles to win the2008 Republican presidential nomination.
"October is not when you elect people," Bush said before hosting a town hall at a Catholic high school in Charleston. "It's February, and then you move into March."
Bush said his efforts now focus on four contests in February: The Iowa caucuses, theNew Hampshire primary, the South Carolina primary and the Nevada caucuses. He said he is also taking aim at a March 1 group of primaries, including key southern states like Georgia and Texas.
"We have a campaign that is designed to win," Bush said. "And I'm going to win."
In discussing his campaign changes, Bush also talked about the changing nature of the Republican race. He cited a "new phenomenon" of candidates who have risen in the polls without any previous political experience, an apparent reference to Donald Trump and Ben Carson. He described them as "the frontrunners right now" who will be "held to account, just like all of us will."
Later Saturday morning, Bush again referred to the early Republican contests during the town hall hosted by Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., talking up the importance of South Carolina in the primary process on several occasions. "The February states are important," Bush said.
Scott — who has not yet endorsed in the primary — said after the town hall he doesn't think Bush's campaign changes will hurt him in South Carolina. The senator compared the slim-down to the diet that Bush himself used to lose weight.
"I think he's doing the Paleo diet to his campaign," Scott said.
Also appearing at the town hall: U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., two days after chairing a hearing in which Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton testified about the 2012 terrorist attack on a U.S. facility in Benghazi, Libya.
"I don't know what y'all were doing Thursday," Gowdy told the supportive crowd. "I had a rough Thursday."
Democrats have accused Gowdy of conducting a partisan investigation designed to target Clinton's presidential campaign. Bush and Scott praised the South Carolina congressman for seeking the truth about the attack that killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya.
"I've been in the limelight myself a few times," Bush said. "And it's not easy."

NEMA confirms 27 dead, 96 injured in Jambutu Mosque explosion By Wale Odunsi

bomb maiduguriAbout 27 persons died and 96 injured in Friday’s explosion at Jambutu Mosque during Juma’at prayer.
This confirmation was made by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)
Injured victims were evacuated to Federal Medical Centre, Yola and Specialist Hospital Jimeta, Adamawa state.
However, residents say over 100 people died.
Security and hospital sources refused to give a figure but told our correspondent that many people lost their lives.
Audu Hassan, a resident of the area who spoke on phone, said the situation was scary.
“In fact, looking at the corpses is disturbing. Over hundred or more were killed in the explosion, this is sad coming at this time when Yola is about experiencing peace.”
According to him, the attackers came on different side and simultaneously detonated the bombs killing many people who came for the commissioning of the mosque as well as those who came to watch.
The explosion occurred at about 2:00 pm.
A member of the first aid group of Jama’atul Bid’a Wa Ikhamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) Mallam Yusuf Osama said the suicide bomber detonated his explosives shortly after the Friday prayers commences.
“It is a gory scenario, many people were killed in the blast and we are busy evacuating dead bodies and injured victims to hospital.
“The suicide bomber wanted to get access to the main bowl of the mosque so that he will cause massive havoc but before he reaches the building, the bomb detonated.
“The decapitated head of the suicide bomber was lying among the mangled bodies of the victims,” Osama noted.
Another eyewitness on condition of anonymity said a batch of soldiers drafted to the scene have opened fire on the crowd instantly killing about three people.
“When the first batch of soldiers came, they started beating people with horse whips which caused uproar as the worshippers retaliated by pelting the soldiers with stones. The soldiers later fired shots leading to the instant death of many people,” the source said.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer Adamawa State Police Command, DSP Othman Abubakar said he could not confirm the casualty figure.

Forces within APC working against Audu – Group alleges

AUDU 1dpA pressure group in the Kogi State All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised an alarm on how some party members from a section of the state were allegedly working to ensure that Prince Abubakar Audu lost the forthcoming governorship election.
The group, Kogi East APC Youth Front( KEAYF), in a press statement issued in Lokoja by its President, Dr Abimaje Ocheni, and Secretary, Miss Grace Ebune alleged that some party leaders from Kogi Central District were, among other grievances, blaming Audu for the defeat of Ebira candidates at the party’s primary election and had covertly decided to work against the APC at the November election in the state.
“There is a very disturbing evidence that a section of our party members, acting ethnic script, is trying to pull back a moving train.
“Regrettably, this section, specifically the Ebiras of the Central Senatorial District, is scheming under a diverse agenda to reverse all the advantages of our great party in the state”, the statement said.
“Ever since the resounding victory of Prince Abubakar Audu, the Adoja Attah-Igala, at our party’s primary election, members of the APC family from Kogi Central have not been at ease.
“First, it was alleged that the sudden realisation that the combined votes of their candidates, who were the first, second and third runners-up, surpassed that of Adoja, ignited a fresh sense of micro nationalism propelled more by regret than reason.”
KEAYF alleged that one of the contenders at the primary election had mounted a crusade to take Audu’s ticket even when it was obvious such was not possible.

I’ll wait for my Eagles chance, Iheanacho tells Oliseh

Kelechi Iheanacho flying eaglesBY EPHRAIM NWOSU
Nigeria youth sensation, Kelechi Iheanacho has declared that he would continue to bid his time for a Super Eagles’ chance despite being overlooked by Coach Sunday Oliseh in last week’s international friendly against Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon in Belgium.
The 18-year-old was recently promoted to Manchester City’s first team prior to the new season following a spectacular pre-season performance, but he was surprisingly snubbed by Oliseh for national team call up.
And speaking exclusively to The Sun Sports through Kennedy Ezenwere, Iheanacho’s mentor and coach at the Taye Academy Owerri, Imo State, the player said he won’t allow himself to be bothered by Nigeria snub because it could affect his output; but would rather concentrate on his game and wait for his time.
Said he: “I spoke with Kelechi again shortly after their match against Bournemouth and he made it clear that he bears no grudge against Oliseh for leaving him out of the friendly games; because he is aware that not everybody can be called to the national team at the same time.
‘’He is still a young player with promising future and I think he would be happy to wait for his time. God’s time, they say, is the best. He knows that when it is his time to be called up to the national team, nobody can stop him.
‘’Like every other player, he is very optimistic that he will play for the Super Eagles some day and he is looking forward to it with great enthusiasm, but he is not desperate about it.
“For now, he wants to keep on doing well with Man City and allow his form to speak for him.’’
Iheanacho came off the bench to score for the Citizens in last weekend 5-1 bashing of Bournemouth but the goal was wrongly disallowed.
The goal would have been his second league goal for City, after only previously making two substitute appearances for the former English champions who top the Premier League with twenty one points after nine games.
Meanwhile, contrary to believe, the youngster’s exploits in England has not gone unnoticed by the Nigerian coach.
“Kudos to Kelechi Iheanacho for his goal that gives Man. City the much needed 3 points,” Oliseh reportedly tweeted in recognition of Iheanacho’s goal in the EPL week 5 fixture against Crystal Palace.
The ex-Juventus and Ajax midfielder, however, hinted that Iheanacho was still one for the future, but admitted he could also make the Super Eagles team soon.
“I do admit though that it feels good to have credible options 4 D future (sic), tomorrow na the future too (tomorrow is the future too),” Oliseh added.

FLYING EAGLES: MINOR FALL NIGERIA (1:2)

Minor fall Nigeria (1:2)

Croatia came from behind to defeat Group A winners Nigeria 2-1 and advance to the knockout stages of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Chile 2015.

Croatia, knowing a win would be enough for them to advance to the knockout stages, started the match in Coquimbo with great determination and created a number of chances early in the match. Croatia captain Nikola Moro had a shot from around the penalty area deflect strongly off Nigeria's brave defenders.

Four minutes later, Nigeria had their first significant chance of the match when Victor Osemhen, after an impressive counter attack, slotted a shot past Croatia goalkeeper Adrian Semper only for it to hit the base of the goal post.
Osemhen would not have to wait long to see his fortunes change when, after another swift counter attack, he calmly danced around Semper to score and become the tournament's outright top scorer, tallying his fourth goal at Chile 2015 so far.
Croatia continued to have the majority of possession for the remainder of the half. In the 39th minute Moro had a strong free-kick saved superbly by Nigeria keeper Akpan Udoh. Croatia would have one more significant chance before the interval but Borna Sosa's shot was deflected for a corner after Ejike Ikwu's intervention. When the referee blew the whistle for half-time, Croatia had 18 attempts to Nigeria's three, but it was the Africans who held the important advantage.
Croatia returned from the break anxious to finally convert a chance and they did so just five minutes into the second half. Josip Brekalo scored the equaliser after Moro wriggled his way along the Nigerian defense's goal-line and found his team-mate on the back post.
Dario Basic's Croatia then used their momentum to take the lead four minutes later when they capitalised on an error from Nigeria's backline. Karlo Majic cooly curled in a right-footed shot to score his second of the tournament and, more importantly, give his team the lead.
There were chances for both sides towards the end and Nigeria threatened to score an equaliser in the final minutes. The stand-out moment was Croatia defender Branimir Kalaica's last-ditch block on Samuel Chukwueze to keep his side 2-1 ahead.
Croatia held on to their lead in the end to become the first Croatian team ever to reach the Round of 16 in the tournament and will now face the runners-up in Group C on Thursday 29 October, while Group A winners Nigeria will wait to see which third-placed team from Groups C, D or E they will come up against in the Round of 16 on Wednesday 28 October.

Quotes

"I am very proud of my players who played a great match. We approached this game as a final, telling us it was absolutely necessary to win or go home. I believed in my team. It has shown that it can compete with the best teams in the world," Dario Basic, Croatia coach.

"My players wanted to win, but we were not the best tonight. The Croats have asked us many problems. They prevented us from playing our game and deserved to win. My players are very talented, but still have room for improvement collectively," Emmanuel Amuneke, Nigeria coach.

Tribunal Reserves Ruling On Rivers Governorship Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja to dismiss the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Mr Dakuku Peterside, on the ground that it lacks merit and substance.
The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, also called on the tribunal to dismiss the petition, saying the petitioner failed to prove the several allegations against his election on April 11, 2015.
The Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Suleiman Ambrosa, after listening to the adoption of written addresses by counsels to the petitioners and the defendants adjourned the petition for judgment.
The defendants, Emmanuel Ukala (SAN) and Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN), while adopting their written addresses, claimed that the burden of proof rests on the petitioner who failed to discharge same before the tribunal.
The petitioner, Akin Olujimi (SAN), however, asked the tribunal to grant the reliefs sought in their petition, saying they have successfully proved their case.
With the adoption of written addresses by all the parties, the tribunal reserved judgment to a date to be announced to all the parties.

CONFESSION: I Have Never Taken Bribe In My Life – Amaechi

After weeks of high-wired politics and a long waiting game, former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, arrived at the Senate and was screened as a ministerial nominee. The former governor was top on the list of the order paper released by the Senate.
Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio had earlier said that the PDP caucus in the Senate had no questions for Amaechi as the caucus had just received reports of the petition written against the former Rivers State Governor and had not had time to study the reports in question.
The Majority Leader, in a swift reaction to that then moved a motion that since the PDP senators had no question for Amaechi, he should be allowed to ‘bow and go’ on the basis of being a former House Speaker and former Governor.
A brief argument ensued between the two caucuses before the matter was resolved and the screening commenced.....

A MUST READ UPDATE.......Petrol will soon be cheaper, says Osinbajo

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has revealed that the Muhammadu Buhari administration is working on a medium-term reduction of the pump price of petroleum products. The professor of law said the government was working on ensuring that private refineries work, while reducing importation of refined petroleum. “We are unbundling the NNPC so that its various components are effective core centres and are able to do their business well,” he told Bloomberg in an interview. “In the refining area, we know that at the moment, we have quite a few, about two of the refineries are getting back up. Using those refineries, we have seen the inefficiencies already; we’ve seen the cost. “You can refine at 60 percent capacity, but if it costs 20% more than it would cost you elsewhere, perhaps a private refinery, then you know that there’s a problem.” He said the government was going to reduce the role of the NNPC to its main objective of regulating the sector and ensure a reduction of pump price of petroleum products. “We are going to have private refineries at the site of the old refineries, so they can benefit from the available infrastructure. “We think that in the medium term, we would be able to get cheaper pump price, pump price of oil would be cheaper because we would be importing far less fine petroleum. A lot of that would be produced locally. “Now, we have well over 30 modular refineries, so we think a lot of modular refineries would come. Many of them, their major concern is feed stock, are we going to be guaranteed feed stock? “We are working on that. Once we are able to deal with that.......... Read more at: https://www.thecable.ng/petrol-will-soon-cheaper-says-osinbajo

RICH WORLD, HUNGRY PEOPLE by Akerele Akintunde

Oladejo Olasunkanmi

Amidst the abundance in the world it is ironical that we still witness this level of hunger and starvation across the globe. A world where over 805 million of her population is hungry, imagine the entire North and South America in hunger. Our continual pursuit of a world without hunger has not been helped by the incessant conflict across the world rendering many homeless and refugees. These range from conflict in Northeast Nigeria leaving behind more than a million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs); the crisis in Syrian and others around different part of Africa and middle-east. Other economic downturn has accounted for job loses, fall in the price of crude oil, the depreciation of other currencies against fast rising strength US dollars has left more hardship to the world. More than ever, the gap between the rich and poor globally keep soaring and you can begin to see that the middle class in most economy keep on getting more conspicuous by the day as their numbers can be counted by the fingers.
On October 16th of every year, the issue of hunger is brought to public conscience in commemoration of the founding of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Through the statistics, it cannot be hard to tell that the culmination of recent global events has left more people to be hungry than currently estimated. In every society where hunger is prevalent, the most vulnerable are the children that are supposed to be the leaders of tomorrow and the mothers that are to nurture them. These are voiceless majority and even when they make a sound they are very inaudible because of their fragility. It brings us to question; do we really have a future? In a world in which one in nine people live with the indignation of hunger, cutting across both rural and urban setting. What will you make of destitute in some of the world's most prosperous cities?

This year, The World Food Day’s theme: Social Protection and Agriculture: Breaking the cycle of Rural Poverty, brings to mind the how most of the rural communities in Asia, Africa and some in South America are the most affected.

Hunger is also self-evident in some cities and I totally support that the way to go is not just in Agriculture but also social protection. Beyond advocacy, volunteering and donation government of every nation must be compelled by the United Nation on legislation that will provide safety net for hunger stricken population, support peasant farmers on new technology that will improve productivity and will safeguard food waste. The problem of hunger in the world has gone past a one day aggressive sensitisation; it is a daily problem that requires holistic radical approach to resolving.

The world has never been more inventive than this time, and solving a humanly solvable problem has become a herculean task. Considering the fact that no human problem or disease has been more devastating than hunger and the approach to rescuing the situation has been sort of lackadaisical.

Crimes, deviant behaviours and Attention Deficit Hyper-activity Disorder have all been linked with hunger; I would not argue otherwise. I cannot imagine our children concentrating in class when something as simple as what to eat because there is none becomes a mystery to be unravelled. Our world has never made more money as it did now and so her the people has never been as starved as we were now. A collective will wins, and it is no fallacy that we should never underestimate every little help. Government, agencies, corporate organisation, Non-profit and individuals all have a role to play within the reach of their influence to help say No To Hunger!
“There is no vicious inhumanity than keeping children hungry.”

Akerele Akintunde Hareef is a Cofounder/Executive Director of a hunger relief organisation in Nigeria, FoodClique Support Initiative and a writer for Diaspora Magazine. He writes from Stuttgart, Germany.

ASIWAJU OF AKOKOLAND

The title conferred on him by all Akoko Obas in May 2009. After leaving office as an active academician and public servant, Prof. Boroffice quest to serve his people did not fade. This factor aroused his interest in active politics and prior to 2011 general election, he had positioned himself to vie for Ondo North Senatorial District seat. As a man who never disconnect with his people at the grass-root, though he faced little opposition yet, he got the ticket of his party to contest the senatorial election and he defeated other two contenders to emerge as the Senator representing the good people of Ondo North senatorial district at the 7th National Assembly in Nigeria. Currently, he is the Chairman committee of Science and Technology at the senate.
Asiwaju of Akokoland presented himself for highest office in Ondo State, on 28th of December 2011; all roads led to Oka-Akoko the headquarters of Akoko South West local government where Boroffice officially declared his intention to contest the 2012 gubernatorial election in his beloved state under the platform of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN while the mother of all political declarations came up in Akure the state capital in February 2012. The event the ACN leaders called a huge achievement for them considering the popularity and virtue of the first African to pilot space technology on African soil. Though, Senator Boroffice was not considered by the party leaders for the governorship ticket yet, he proved his loyalty to progressive course by worked assiduously to ensure victory for the party in Akoko South West local government where he hails from. Shortly after the 2012 governorship election in Ondo State, ACN and other three political parties merged to form All Progressives Congress, APC.
