Power disco laments cable loss to theft in Osun

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has said the activities of vandals have caused serious setback to the efforts of the company to improve on electricity distribution in its areas of operation.

The Business Manager of IBEDC, Osogbo Business Hub, Mr. Ajijola Bewaji, said this in Osogbo on Tuesday at the meeting held with members of the community.

He said those behind the theft of electricity cables  had become so determined to the extent that two guards, manning the company’s facilities, were killed by some hoodlums in their attempt to steal cables.

To prevent the vandalism of electricity facilities, Bewaji appealed to electricity consumers to collaborate with the company to safeguard its equipment in their areas.

He urged them to challenge anybody coming to work on their transformers to produce their identity cards in order to prevent unauthorised persons from stealing or vandalising the company’s equipment.

The Head, Disaster Rescue Team of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Osun State, Mr. Olufemi Awofade, said the agency would continue to discharge its duties of protecting Nigerians and property.

Awofade called on members of the public to collaborate with the agency in order to stop vandals and theft of public facilities.

Some of the consumers, who spoke at the forum, urged the company to construct fence round their transformers to prevent electrocution and to deter thieves from stealing their cables.
