Poor leadership caused PDP's defeat - Oke

A former National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olusola Oke, has said that injustice, poor leadership and mismanagement of opportunities led to the defeat of the party in the presidential election.

Oke, who was also the PDP governorship candidate in Ondo State in 2013, added that the victory of the All Progressives Congress’ presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, was well deserved.

In a statement on Wednesday in Akure, Oke said Buhari’s victory was a testimony to the supremacy of the power of the electorate in a democracy.

The statement read, “The President-elect worked, persevered and was dedicated to his aspiration; today the majority of Nigerians have chosen you through their votes. It has been a long walk to victory.

“I congratulate all lovers of democracy, particularly members of the PDP in Ondo State, who have kept faith with and discharged their duties to the party despite all odds.

“Poor leadership, injustice and mismanagement of opportunities available to the party are the vices that sentenced the party out of power.”

Oke also congratulated supporters of the PDP for remaining focused despite distractions, provocations, frustration and ill-treatment.

“Our resolve to contribute our quota to making Nigeria a prosperous, united and developed nation remained unshaken despite this development.
“It is all for and about democracy,” he added.
