ABDUSALAMI PANEL REJECTS SARAKI AS SENATE PRESIDENT.

Abuja - The Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar-led National Peace Committee has rejected the outcome of the election in the Senate, which produced Senator Bukola Saraki as the Senate President, reports The Nation.

The group described the election, which also produced Ike Ekweremadu as the Deputy Senate President, as unacceptable.

The committee in a statement signed by its convener,  Bishop Hassan Mathew Kukah., condemned the apparent desperation for power exhibited by some political actors.

The group noted that what transpired during the inauguration of the 8th Senate neither dignified the upper chamber of the parliament nor represents the yearning and aspiration of Nigerians.

The committee played a pivotal role in ensuring a peaceful 2015 general elections.

The group facilitated a peace pact between former President Goodluck Jonathan and his then challenger President Muhammadu Buhari to douse the tension ahead of the general election.

(*). Why should Senator Bukola Saraki be declared senate president with 57 votes, while 51 other senators were
disenfranchised. That the management of the National Assembly knew that 109 Senators were being
expected on the day of inauguration. Why did they not wait for the others arrival before rushing to conduct
