Ex-Arsenal and England captain to stand for London Mayor

Craig Mackinlay, the Conservative Party's prospective parliamentary candidate for South Thanet, attends a campaign event with former footballer Sol Campbell in Broadstairs, southern England April 4, 2015. Mackinlay is standing against the leader of Britain's anti-EU UKIP party Nigel Farage in the coastal area roiled by economic decline and failing local politicians while Campbell is standing for London Mayor to replace incumbent Boris Johnson.

Former England and Arsenal captain has confirmed he will stand to be Mayor of London to replace incumbent Boris Johnson.

The 40-year-old Sol Campbell, who threw his name into the net as those currently holding positions of political power are “mucking it up”, was born and bred in London to Jamaican parents, according to the Daily Mail.
“I'm going in with my eyes wide open. I know I'm not going to be a frontrunner,” said the Premier League and FA Cup winner.
“But I look at people who have been in politics for five, 10, 15 years, and muck up, you see them muck up and think: "You guys are supposed to be pro!
“People that have gone to Oxbridge, had thousands spent on their education, and I mean they are royally mucking up.”
The former footballer is running for the Tory candidacy against entrepreneur Ivan Massow, current deputy mayor Stephen Greenhalgh and London Assembly member Andrew Boff and has agreed to participate in a live debate on July 4.
