Fayose gives employment to 10 physically challenged

From Wole Balogun, Ado Ekiti
FAYOSE-IN-COURT.FEDERAL-HIGH-COURT-ADO-EKITI-035-e1412150007600-661x400Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, yesterday gave automatic employment to 10 physically-challenged persons in the state, just as 35 wheelchairs were provided for them.
The governor also said the state government would take over the treatment and upkeep of a five-year-old Olumide Enoch, who suffers from cerebral palsy.
Fayose announced the gestures during an interactive session he had with the physically-challenged persons at the Governor’s Office as part of activities to mark his first year in office.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi said the employment opportunities would cut across different categories of people.
Those to benefit from the employment are those with sight challenges, albinos, deaf and dumb, among others.
The governor also said the 10 persons should include six males and four females.
One of the beneficiaries of the employment opportunities, Miss Ibitoye Helen, said she graduated from the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti in 2012 with a second class degree in English and Literary Studies and had been finding it difficult to make ends meet.
Mrs. Olumide, Enoch’s mother, said the family had drained all its resources in taking care of the boy.
“You can see that I am shaking. This is a big support that I cannot fully appreciate with words. What the governor has done is like helping my family to survive. I pray that God will take our dear governor to higher level and be with him and his family,” she said.
President of Physically-Challenged Persons Association in the state, Mr. Ojo Peters said what the governor did was unprecedented in the history of the state.
In his speech, Fayose challenged wealthy individuals and corporate bodies to come to the aid of such people.
Meanwhile, the state government has paid N150 million as compensation to people whose shops would be affected by the construction of new Ojaba Market in Ado-Ekiti. Already, the government has promised to complete the market within the next 14 months.
Fayose disclosed this when he featured  on a radio and television interview programme  in Ado-Ekiti.
According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, yesterday, the governor said the demolition of the old market and the construction of new one would start on November 8, this year.
In a related development, Fayose’s  wife, Feyisetan, has advised women within reproductive ages to peg the number of their kids to a sizeable number their economic power can  support.
She gave the advice at the State Specialist Hospital, Ikole Ekiti, during the payment of  medical bills to some indigent patients.
Apparently uncomfortable with the high number of women, who had just delivered new babies but could not pay their medical bills in the hospital, Mrs Fayose said women should take precautionary measures to regulate the number of children they can conveniently take cater of, to avoid any negative effect on their lives.
She urged medical personnel, including doctors and nurses, to educate  women on how  to key  into family planning process, adding: “The moment you are having three to four children, you should apply a break; so that you too can enjoy your life. God forbids that any adverse thing happens, who is going to take care of your children for you?”
