Police detectives on Wednesday arrested a middle aged man, identified as Adewale (surname withheld) for allegedly using the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card of his girlfriend to withdraw N150, 000 from her account.
Daily Independent gathered that the incident occurred at Ota in Ogun State, where the lady, identified as one Titilayo confessed to police detectives that she used to give her ATM card to the boyfriend to withdraw money for her, when she is too busy to go to her bank.
However, on that fateful day, the man was said to have removed the ATM card from the bag of his girlfriend and sneaked out of the house to the new generation bank, located near Sango head bridge in Ota, Ogun State, where he withdrew the money.
Titilayo told the police that “on that faithful day she got an alert from the bank, notifying her that N150, 000 has been debited from her account and when I called my boyfriend to inquire if he withdrew money from my account, his phone was switched off.
“I was left with no other option than to report the incident at Sango Ota Police Station in Ogun State,” she said.
Police detectives based on the report trailed the suspect to a beer parlour in the area, where he was arrested.
Muyiwa Adejobi, police image maker for Ogun State police command could not be reached on phone for official comment on the incident. But, a police source at Sango Ota Police Station confirmed the incident, saying that the man was detained after writing a statement.
