FLASH: Jega holds closed-door meeting with service chiefs And IGP

The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Committee, INEC, Prof Attahiru Jega, on Saturday, held a closed-door meeting with the National Peace Committee for 2015 elections chaired by General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) over the elections.
The meeting was attended by service chiefs including the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Vice Marshal Alex Badeh; the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, and leadership of the major political parties. Also in attendance was the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar 111, Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan , Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, former Chief of General Staff, Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe, Special Adviser to the President on Inter- Party Relations, Senator Ben Obi. Jega, the security chiefs and General Abubakar all refused to speak to journalists at the end of the meeting. However, a former Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Rose Ukeje said that both INEC and the security agencies had re-affirmed their commitment to conduct the elections as scheduled
.
