Kwara Chapter of the Labour party suspends her gubernatorial candidate.

Kwara State Labour Party has suspended its governorship aspirant, Alhaji Abdulhakeem Amao, indefinitely.

The state Chairman of LP, Mr. Johnson Babalola during a media briefing in Ilorin on Thursday said Amao was suspended for alleged disruption of the party’s meetings.
Babalola also accused Amao of indulgence in alleged unwholesome conducts.
He also said that Amao, after paying N1m as fee for intent for the governorship race, did not pay N6.5m for the purchase of the party’s governorship nomination form.
According to him, the party had given Amao reasonable time to pay but when he could not, the party adopted Dr. Mike Omotosho as the party’s governorship candidate to avoid putting the party in disadvantage position.

Some state officials and the party’s governorship running mate, Alhaji Abdulmumini Onagun, were present during the media briefing.
Babalola said, “Amao’s conduct is unbecoming of a governorship aspirant. In view of the foregoing reasons and in line with Article19b(1) of the Labour Party Constitution, the party hereby suspends Akeem Amao from the party activities forthwith.”
But Amao, in a telephone interview with our correspondent, said the purported suspension was null and void, claiming that the provisions of the party’s constitution were not followed.
He also said the allegations against him were completely false, adding that he would continue his activities in the party.

He stated that it was wrong for the party to adopt another person as its governorship candidate as he had not exhausted the time given by the Independent National Electoral Commission to pay his nomination form fee.

“The purported suspension is a nullity. I have been funding the party for a very long time. How can you build a house and another person will come and chase you out and occupy the house? All the allegations against me are completely untrue,” Amao said.
