New York receives Facey on loan from Manchester City

The England Under-19 international will be available for the first four months of the MLS season after training with the side during their build-up to the new campaign
Manchester City defender Shay Facey has joined New York City on loan until June 30.

The former England Under-19 international has been training with the new MLS franchise during their pre-season, and will now join the squad for the first four months of their season.

The 21-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance for the Premier League champions and he is looking forward to the challenge of playing in the USA.

"It’s really exciting for me to be joining New York City FC as we begin our historic, inaugural season," he told City's official website.

"The squad and coaches have been fantastic throughout training camps, and I’m happy to be part of something so special.

"It been a fantastic experience. The initial idea was just to train with the team for pre-season, but I’ve really enjoyed working with the group and am now very much looking forward to the start of the season. What’s happening at this club is exciting for a player and it’s something we talk about as a group.

"The standard has been competitive in training as well as in the matches and I’m looking forward to fighting for my place in the squad and learning from Jason Kreis and the other coaches. It will be a proud moment for me when I make my MLS debut."

New York begin their inaugral campaign against fellow newcomers Orlando City on Sunday.
