West Ham co-owner Gold 'hopeful' over Reid contract

The centre-back is close to agreeing an extension to his deal after months of speculation, with the joint-chairman hinting that talks have progressed
West Ham co-chairman David Gold is "hopeful" that defender Winston Reid will sign an extension to his expiring contract.

The New Zealand international has been linked with moves to Tottenham and Arsenal when his contract expires at the end of the season, but an agreement with the Hammers is believed to be close.

Sam Allardyce has long been vocal of his desire to keep Reid at Upton Park, despite previously admitting that he expected the centre-back to leave, but Gold has hinted on Twitter that negotiations have turned a corner.

Reid joined West Ham from Danish club FC Midtjylland in 2010 and been an ever-present in the heart of their defence since his arrival, playing a key role in the club's impressive 2014-15 campaign to date.
