With barely one month to the end of his administration, Bauchi State governor, Isa Yuguda, has sacked about 2,000 political aides.
The sacking, which was contained in a statement by the Permanent Secretary, Political Affairs, Government House, Hashimu Yakubu, on behalf of the Secretary to the State Government, stated that all Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Personal Assistants had been fired with immediate effect.
Although, the statement did not state the number of aides affected by the action, our correspondent learnt from government sources in Bauchi that those affected would be “well over 2,000.”
A top government official said, “I don’t know how many of them were sacked but they can be more than 2,000 because shortly before the elections, the governor was said to have appointed 70 new aides.”
Yakubu’s statement read in part, “The Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Mallam Isa Yuguda, has approved the disengagement of all Special Advisers (with the exception of the Special Adviser, Due Process).
“Also, all Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants and Personal Assistants (with the exception of those who work directly under His Excellency the Executive Governor or the Deputy Governor).”
According to the statement, all those affected are requested to hand over government property in their possession to the heads of organisations where they served.
Yuguda was quoted as having expressed his appreciation to the disengaged political aides for their contributions to the development of Bauchi State in their various capacities and wished them the best in their future endeavours.
