The South-East chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has applauded the decision of Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s efforts to construct a progressive country instead of engaging the president in needless opposition.
Spokesman of APC leadership caucus in the zone, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, in a statement yesterday, also commended Umahi for his disposition to the APC federal administration, urging other opposition governors to emulate him for good governance and prosperity.
The statement read in part: “We equally commend governor Umahi for his pronouncement that his support to Mr. President does not in any way, mean that he is leaving his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). For us, it is a welcome development because our dear country needs a strong opposition and constructive criticism to reinforce our fledgling democracy.
“We do not want one party. Rather, we cherish two dominant political parties in a multi-party system. This is the zenith of liberal democracy, which stabilizes, unites a country and provides the electorate with alternatives during the elections.”
The party hailed Umahi for exhibiting statesmanship, spirit of patriotism, far sightedness, and concern for the well-being of Nigerians and Ndigbo in particular, under the Buhari-led administration.
“It is our considered view that Ndigbo and all hard working and enterprising Nigerians stand to benefit immensely from the transparent Buhari administration than the patronage system of yore,” the party said.
