Buhari commended over Kemi Adeosun’s ministerial nomination

…may man Finance Ministry
President Muhammadu Buhari has been commended for the nomination of Kemi Adeosun as one of minister nominees under the All Progressive Congress led government.
National Mirror also gathered that Mrs Adeosun may be saddled with the responsibility of managing the economy of the nation, a responsibility which will see her confront the dwindling economy, inflation and ensure prudent fiscal management under the present administration.
A group, Young Women in Politics in a Press conference in Abuja on Monday also called on the Senate to ensure that the nominee is screened and allowed to bow and go when the exercise commences today at the National Assembly.
According to the group, Mrs. Adeosun, a former Commissioner for Finance in Ogun State was not a surprise inclusion in the ministerial list as her background and intimidating resume speak volume of her competence and ability to perform at the higher stage.
Chairperson of the group, Hajia Bilkisu Abdullahi who led scores of other women to the conference salutes President Buhari for the nomination of three women in the cabinet but also demanded that more women should be considered for more ministerial slots when the second list is released.
On Adeosun, Hajia Abdullah said, “the nomination of Adeosun, the only woman commissioner of Finance in Nigeria shows that President Buhari has the intention of rising above primordial sentiments of the men’s folk to pick the best manpower available who will effectively drive his economic programmes to a crescendo.
“Adeola, an Economics graduate and a member of the Institutes of Chartered Accountants, England and Wales, as well as Nigeria, turned around the economy of Ogun State in just four years. “It was under her watch that in spite of the dwindling revenue from the federation account, Ogun State government embarked on several gigantic projects.
This is a state that was among the least earners from the Federation Account, without oil resources, yet she grew the internally generated revenue of the state to record such massive achievement.
“Her courageous intervention through the Home Ownership programme in ensuring that obtaining C of O by land allottees was without any encumbrances as was the case before.
“Her efforts to stabilise the debt profile in the state stood her out as a very experienced fund manager and hence the need for President Buhari to consider her to similar portfolio in the federal executive.”
Meanwhile, a presidency sources confirmed to National Mirror that Mrs Adeosun may have been tipped to oversee the finance ministry.
According to the source, “the ministry is key to this government and the President has decided to work with experienced technocrat who is already tested and proved to be competent in financial matters to handle such a sensitive ministry.”
Recall that the immediate past minister of Finance, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala who also doubled as coordinating head of the President Good luck Jonathan economic team was saddled with the responsibility of checking the dwindling economy, inflation and ensure prudent fiscal management of the past administration.
Meanwhile, Ogun State chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC has also commended President Buhari for nominating Adeosun.
Speaking with the National Mirror, the party through its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Sola Lawal said the former Commissioner for Finance in the state, Mrs. Adeosun is the choice of the party and that though the party nominated her, the party is full of thanks to President Buhari for appointing her to the ministerial position.
Also, a legal practitioner in Abeokuta , the Ogun State capital, Barrister Mutiu Agboke said the appointment of any individual to occupy the position of the Minister is at the prerogative of Mr President guided by the constitution.
“ I have gone through the Curriculum Vitae of Mrs Adeosun and discovered that she is a thorough- breed professional with a global knowledge of the Accounting system. She has been in Ogun State for the past four years, and so far she has no record of misappropriation of funds or any other misdeeds.
“ I am well convinced that the experience she has got in Ogun with the global experience she had garnered, you will agree with me that she has all it takes to manage the national economy or any other position she might be assigned to manage.
“I want to commend President Muhammadu Buhari for being able to spot her as one of those deserve to serve in his cabinet. I assure you that this federal administration is on the right course,” Barrister Agboke said.
