THE National Assembly Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia has fixed October 12, as judgment day on the petition filed by former governor of Abia State and Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) candidate in the March 28 Senate election, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, against the declaration of Mao Ohuabunwa by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as winner of the election.
The tribunal fixed the date after the parties adopted their final written addresses.

Adopting the petitioner’s final address, counsel to Kalu, Kelvin Nwufo (SAN), urged the tribunal to declare Kalu winner of the election based on the result of two local government areas of Bende and Isuikwuato out of the five which make up the senatorial district, or in the alternative, nullify the election and order fresh election.
Nwufo cited relevant sections of the law to buttress his prayer and averred that the non issuance of the form EC8 did not prejudice the petition in any way. In an interview with
newsmen, Nwufor said the Appeal Court in Owerri has ordered the admission of the ICT information on the accreditation of voters earlier rejected by the trial tribunal, which he said was included in the final written address.
Nwufo added that the Appeal Court admitted and marked it as exhibit CA.
However, counsel to the 1st respondent, Mike Onyeka adopted the address and urged the tribunal to dismiss the petition.
